| Mission Statement The mission of the Jumby Bay Hawksbill Project is to better understand the life history of the hawksbill turtle, in hopes that our findings will serve as a foundation for wise management and policy making. We seek to increase public awareness of sea turtles regionally and internationally through school visits and educational turtle watches for residents and tourists. Only through long-term public support will Antigua and Barbuda's hawksbills have a chance at survival and recovery. |
| History The roots of the Jumby Bay Hawksbill Project date back more than two decades. In 1987, research began on the island’s Pasture Beach, with the objective of tagging each hawksbill nesting and recording every nesting event on the quarter- mile long beach. Through the years, the saturation tagging research protocols have remained the same, and the 2009 season marks the 23rd consecutive year of hawksbill nesting ecology research on Jumby Bay. The Jumby Bay Island Company continues to generously support the project. |
